There are six families that make up the garnet group. Some are quite common, like the pyrope and almandine red garnets. Other are among the rarest of gems, including tsavorite green garnet, alexandrite like garnet, and the very popular mandarin spessartite garnet. All garnets are rare in larger sizes. Garnets have the ability to display very high brilliance particularly in lighter colored varieties.
