Garnet Jewelry
A wide variety of colors await those with this January birthstone. Only blue is missing from the spectrum of available colors and even this color can be seen in certain lights in the alexandrite variety of garnet. Larger fine gems have similar rarity to diamonds and are not common in the marketplace. When not too dark this gem can have a similar brilliance to diamond due to relatively high refractive and being singly refractive as is diamond. Major sources include Madagascar, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Brazil. The rhodolite variety named after the flower of similar color, rhododendron was originally discovered in Franklin North Carolina.  Garnet (Red)
