Featured here is a 14.00 carat cabochon opal with a blue base color with flashes of green purple. This loose opal measures 14 mm wide, 26 mm long, 9 mm deep and has a total depth of 64.3%. The opal has been sourced from Ethiopia, which is a fairly new source discovered in 2008. Ethiopia produces hydrophane opals that resist crazing and are more durable. If your opal soaks up water, the opal will turn a milky white color, with in a couple days your opal should dry out and restore its vivid colors once again. You do want to be cautious with products such as hair dyes, hair sprays, perfumes, etc. We urge you to put your Ethiopian opal jewelry on, only after, you have applied any products of any kind. Cut right here in our custom design jewelry shop, Moriarty's Gem Art, in Crown Point, Indiana by owner and precision gemstone cutter Steve Moriarty. Work one on one with our in house award winning jewelry designer, Christopher Michael to create a one of a kind design to house yo ur precious opal.
