Peridot sources include Arizona, Pakistan, China, Burma, and Ethiopia. Currently China is the only source producing any quantity. The Apache reservation in Arizona has been the primary producer up to the discovery of peridot in the 1990's high in the Himalaya Mountains of Pakistan. Pakistani peridot rapidly became the premier source of peridot. The color was unique for its strong blue secondary colors and large sizes. Production for the last tens years has been very limited. Most other sources have yellow secondary colors which are less desirable. The Chinese material currently available is similar in color to the material from the Apache resrvation. Burma in the past has produced very fine peridot of large size but we have not seen material from this source for many years and currently importing from Burma is banned by the U.S. government due to civil rights issues.
