featured here is a 15.23 carats pear shaped cabochon opal with vivid flashes of red green yellow. This loose opal measures 17.8 mm wide, 22 mm long, 9.5 mm deep with a total depth of 53.4%. Sourced from Ethiopia, a fairly new source discovered in 2008. This source has produced hydrophane opals that soak up liquids and resist a cracking called crazing that is common among other types of opals, such as Australian opals. This is very beneficial and makes these Ethiopian opals more durable; however, you want to be cautious when applying products such as lotions, hair sprays, or hair dyes. Once your opal soaks up any of these products there is a good chance it is ruined beyond repair. Water however will not ruin your opal. It will loose it's colors and become milky white, but after a couple days of drying out your opal will restore its vivid flashes of color. Work one on one with out in house award winning jewelry designer, Christopher Michael to create the perfect design to house your stunning Ethiopian opal.
