Top crystal faceted opal cut by Steve Moriarty. This rare type of opal only recently came out of Ethiopia. Previous material was not stable and readily crazed. I was holding this to mount but due to our heavy load of custom work we have been unable to create a piece of jewelry so I am offering it loose. This has been cut for more than 10 months and we feel it is completely stable. Not your typical hydrophane material so it is not affected by moisture.
One 31.60 carats faceted oval crystal opal from Ethiopia, colorless with play of color, cut grade excellent, measuring 20.5 mm wide, 26.5 mm long, 15.5 mm deep; with excellent polish and excellent symmetry. The proportions of the crystal opal are as follows: total depth 75.6%, table width 43.9%. The crystal opal also has a crown angles of 45°-35-25 and a pavilion angle of 45°.
This opal is beyond what in Australia is considered the finest grade of white opal known as “top crystal”. A unique opal that will take your breath away in direct sunlight.
